Starbites Phase 1 - Branding and Packaging

Startup Package - Phase 1

Challenge

The challenge with Starbites was a simple request from their team: Merge together the trippy outer space vibe with an updated, modern feel to it. The biggest challenge with this project was sticking to the color scheme the client gave us that had no wiggle room; which included only allowing darker backgrounds on most of the packaging. Again we were tasked with creating a product that spoke to an existing demographic while simultaneously speaking to a demographic that had been untouched in the market. This has been, by far, one of our most challenging and rewarding projects to date.

Goal

The goal was to emulate the success of brands across the United States recently like Eggbites and Poppi with their brand message. We are taking something that is brand new and applying a pre-existing style to it while still sticking to regulations. The goal was to make Starbites something that you could find on every smoke shops shelf but you wouldn't be surprised to also see on an end cap in Target or Wegmans.

Solution

The solution to this problem, once we nailed down the initial look, came easy. We let go of our own preconceived notions of what a mushroom product should be and started focusing more on where it would be sold. We wanted to capture attention, not on the shelves competing with everyone else, but by the register as an impulse purchase. Our use of the bright colors on the single servings, along with the high end packaging of the chocolates appearing as a gift, will help disassociate our product with the negative vibes from potential customers and reach down into the FOMO buyer psyche. The next step is taking this brand and preparing it for a digital world with a website, SEO package and the full digital presence management.
